A team of white Percheron and a team of Belgian work horses rest in the shade of a Pine tree after a hard days work in the fields. It's hot out. Heat rises from the ground. The lone pine barely offers enough shade. Sun dapples their hide.
This is a large painting, 30x40 inches painted from life while standing in the barn after un-harnessing the teams. These are working horses on our ranch in Eastern Washington. They do field work and cut their own hay. Life is good, as it should be when one lives in harmony with natureand an artist has such wonderful models to paint. It usually has to do with light and substance. Light is the substance of the universe from which all is derived. It is a marvelous yet challenging privilege to be a painter. I love painting en plein air. It is a method that reflects today's world...
